Welcome to Liam’s Lodge
Children’s Respite Centre
An initiative of The Saoirse Foundation, the planned Liam’s Lodge will provide respite to parents in Ireland with children who suffer from Batten Disease, Cystic Fybrosis, Marfan Syndrome, Angelman’s Syndrome and other rare and lesser-known conditions. During the one-week respite at Liam’s Lodge, parents will enjoy a home away from home environment, and receive much-needed recreational, medical and educational help and support.
In the relaxing and supportive environment of Liam’s Lodge, parents will be able to mix with others in a similar position, safe in the knowledge that their children are being looking after by caring professionals. While parents are recharging their batteries, they will also receive training in the additional skills required when caring for highly dependent children.
“This fantastic project will be a sanctuary from the daily challenges of life which affect the whole family unit, particularly for those whose children have severely debilitating and life limiting conditions. Liam’s Lodge will open up space for much needed joy, hope, friendship, comfort and happy memories, and will be of enormous help to parents and children – a balm in troubled lives.”
Mary McAleese, President of Ireland 1997-2011
“To have a child with a rare or genetic disease is incredibly difficult. I am really looking forward to Liam’s Lodge becoming available for families across Ireland.”
