We are delighted to announce that the planning application for Liams Lodge has been submitted to Kerry County Council.  David Moriarty of David Moriarty and Associates Architects very generously donated his time and services and provided all the architectural work for the application free of charge.

Liams Lodge will be Ireland’s first dedicated National Respite & Training Centre for genetic and rare disorders and will be Ireland’s second children’s hospice predominantly catering for sick children from Munster and the Mid-West. Comprising of 29 self-contained family units, Liams Lodge will be the first of its kind in Ireland and will also provide day care facilities, therapy rooms to cater for all of our guests.  Liams Lodge will also offer outreach nursing in the community to ensure that full care services are also available at home.

Liam’s Lodge will also be a world class training and education centre offering fully accredited training courses in genetic and rare diseases. The Saoirse Foundation has partnered with Trinity College and University College Dublin as well as the third level institutions in Munster to develop and deliver the accredited on-site training for medical students and care professionals.  Liams Lodge will also provide training to families and care providers as well as continued professional training to nurses, doctors and other medical professionals.

Liams Lodge will be located on a 10 acre green field site in Blennerville, Tralee, Co. Kerry.  When fully built the centre will initially create in excess of 40 new jobs in Kerry, this will increase to 62 when the facility is fully operational.  Liams Lodge will provide respite to over 1500 families a year, bringing much needed support for families and a significant economic boost to Tralee and the surrounding areas.

We are now actively seeking support from trade professionals & contractors to get involved with the developing Liams Lodge.  Whether it is a box of screws, steel, timber, roofing , insulation, windows etc.. or any building materials which you can provide, we would love to hear from you.  We are asking businesses, builders suppliers, tradespeople and anyone else who wishes to be a part of Liams Lodge to donate time, equipment, services and funds to help us build this badly needed facility.  No matter what you can do for us, it will be appreciated and you can create a positive impact in the lives of sick children, their parents and siblings.

You can pledge your support today by texting DINO to 50300 to make a €4 donation.
